About the festival

The festival are based on a strong sense of community

The community consists of a collaboration between supporters, volunteers, and cultural actors.

The H.C. Andersen Festivals is a private non-profit association whose vision is

To promote interest in timeless universe of Hans Christian Andersen and his birthplace, Odense, far and wide.

We do this in collaboration with cultural actors who contribute exciting projects supported by the festival's sponsors, partners, Odense Municipality, foundations, and the region.

Together with passionate individuals from the cultural and educational fields who are involved in the festival's professional committees, they work actively to realize the festival's vision.

The festival was launched in 2013 by a group of business people with the vision of putting Odense on the map through a large and diverse cultural event.

The association behind the H.C. Andersen Festivals started with 26 members and now has around 50 private and public member companies. Today, the festival has over 200 sponsors and supporters.

In 2019, Odense Flower Festival became part of the Hans Christian Andersen Festival, creating synergies between the festivals, with several of the flower festival's decorations

The first edition of the Hans Christian Andersen Festival had around 260 activities in the festival program, and today the festival offers more than 500 cultural activities for all age groups from Thursday in week 33 to Saturday in week 34. The festival reflects the world of H.C. Andersen through its core values, which were formulated by the H.C. Andersen Center and, in particular, Professor Emeritus Johs. Nørregaard Frandsen.
